C.A.T.S. Spay/Neuter Program
(Cats Are Treated Sensibly)
The C.A.T.S. Spay/Neuter Program was initiated in 2008 by Lois Lancette of Fort Covington and Jean Laffin of Akwesasne, to provide spaying and neutering financial assistance for cat owners and community cat caretakers with the intent to reduce the overpopulation of cats. Donation cans placed at businesses in Akwesasne and Fort Covington serve as this program's only source of revenue. A total of 400 cats have been spayed and neutered through this program; all cats owned and unowned qualify for this program. To qualify for this program, the applicant must reside in Akwesasne.
